Pak preparing for war on India: Obama
http://www.tribuneindia.com/2008/20080906/main3.htm
Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama says Pakistan is diverting US aid to prepare for a war against India.
The claim, which did not surprise many in Washington, was made in an interview to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly this week. “We are providing them military aid without having enough strings attached… So they’re using the aid for preparing for a war against India,” Obama said.

BJP’s new formula must worry a PM-in-waiting
Flirting with regionalism
BJP’s new formula must worry a PM-in-waiting
by J. Sri Raman
During one of his television interviews to promote his autobiography, BJP leader L.K. Advani recounted a chance meeting with Rahul Gandhi in the wake of the last Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The would-be AICC general secretary asked the ‘Prime Minister-in-waiting’ for his views on the political situation. The veteran pointed to the strange ways of electoral politics, with a “regionalist” and a “caste-based party” (like Mayawati’s BSP) achieving power because of the antagonism between the two “national” parties.
The former Deputy Prime Minister may have a fuzzy memory about men like Punjab’s Communist patriarch Satyapal Dang and matters like the Kandahar episode, but he remembered the rest of this conversation very well. The political novice wondered “what can be done” in such a situation.
Advani’s sage counsel was that the BJP and the Congress should treat each other like “political opponents” and not as “enemies”. The corollary was clear: the two “national parties” should consider only the “regionalist” and “caste-based” outfits as “enemies”.
Restricting ourselves to the BJP and regionalism for the moment, the anecdote strikes an obvious note of irony. Advani was reiterating the point he made to Rahul Gandhi at a time when the BJP had won a major Assembly election itself on regionalist grounds and was attempting to repeat the achievement on the same plank in yet another Assembly poll.
Swarup Sarkar asks
Swarup Sarkar, a blogger and a human rights activist has a few valid points. He has so many questions, which must be answered. This time, he is asking questions to the (Indian) media. Unfortunately, our media-persons will not care to address Swarup Sarkar’s points.
Swarup Sarkar says,
“Crime is Crime and the Punishment should be equall for all, but it seems our Media and Law Maker forget that as a result all prefer to keep this News Under Carpate:
‘Whole family of a husband attempted suicide at Alwar city in Rajasthan. On Saturday evening, 3 Feb. 2007, the whole family living at Dayanand Nagar at Alwar city in Rajasthan consumed poisonous food due to threats false case and jailing by Ashok’s in-laws. Ashok, who was Engineer in a private company, his father Giriraj both died in the hospital and Ashok’s mother is undergoing treatment at Hospital. “
This is not a single case , every year more than such cases happening at least 22,000 , but Media always prefers to keep the same under Carpet.
Why?”

First Lohri of ‘Mintu’
Today’s Lohri is the first Lohri of Paramjit Singh ‘Mintu’ after his marriage with Gurpreet Kaur… Happy Lohri brother!!!!!
The newly wed couple is seen celebrating their first Lohri. Mintu is so happy… His wife is so shy…
What did you say??? Where Am I? Oh well…. I am behind the camera…
Lohri
‘Lohri‘ (Pronounce: – Loh-rhi) is an annual festival in Punjab. It comes in the month of January. It is not a religious festival. The story says that a poor man named Hundo married off his daughter. Her in-laws demanded dowry, which Hundo could not give. As a result, his daughter was burnt. For this reason the daughters go begging for money from their brothers and elders so that the same does not happen to them….
The day begins with children collecting money from houses in the neighbourhood. In the evening, winter savouries are served around a bonfire. Children go from door to door singing songs in praise of Dulha Bhatti, a Punjabi version of Robin Hood who robbed the rich and helped the poor. These “visitors” are given either money or gachak, bhuga, til, moongphali, gur and rewri. The festival assumes greater significance if there has been a happy event in the family during the elapsed year, like the birth of a male child or marriage.
Eating of til and rorhi is considered to be essential on this day. Perhaps the words til and rorhi merged to become tilorhi, which eventually got shortened to Lohri.
When a criminal can sit in the Union Cabinet
I was thinking to share my views on this topic. Then I read this Special Editorial by H. K. Dua, in The Tribune, Chandigarh. I think H. K. Dua expressed his views successfully and I am agree to the points raised by him. Thus, there is no need for me to repeat same points.
Unshorn hair and Vedic religion
Many brothers often discuss a few points with me through emails or online chat. Here is an email I got from one of these brothers, which contains information on unshorn hair in Vedic religious books:
1. Rigveda: All the Gandhrav people had unshorn hair. Hair is divine blessing.
2. The mythical gods of sun, water, medicine, vegetation etc have unshorn hair.
3. The mythical Hindu god Inder has unshorn hair and it is the hair that gives him real strength.
4. In the Rig-Veda, there is a prayer; made by the Brahmins that asks the people to seek from God the gift of long hair.
5. According to Manu all Hindus must wear a turban donned on his head.
6. According to the Valmiki Ramayna, Ravana had long hair. Ravana’s companions were deeply pained when Jatau pulled Ravana’s hair.
7. Muni Sukdev, who used to give sermons to the council of the kings, had unshorn hair.
8. King Virat had unshorn hair
9. Durbhasha Rishi too had long unshorn hair and beard.
12. According to the commandments of Brahmi Sahinta (Bhavikhat Puran) “only those who have unshorn hair have a right to be rulers of the land.”
13. Dharam Shastra forbids the Sanyasis from cutting their hair.
14. According to Dharam Sahinta cohabiting partner should not touch the hair of each other while making love, in order to preserve the sanctity of their hair.
15. According to Ketya Samriti one should always cover one’s hair while taking meals
19. The Hindu sociologist Manu says that if a Brahmin commits an act of sin his hair should be shaved off. It is more than hanging him.
20. According to Manu it is a sin to touch the hair of an opponent even while fighting.
Justice delayed, but not denied
At last. Yes, at last the accused got the punishment. It took eleven years, but at last late Priyadarshini Mattoo got justice.

“He does not deserve to be pardoned. This is rarest of the rare cases,” Justice R S Sodhi and Justice P K Bhasin said in their judgment.
And why should he be pardoned? Only because he was a son of a top IPS officer, when he allegedly raped and killed Priyadarshini Mattoo, a Delhi University law student, eleven years ago?
Definitely, the accused, Santosh Kumar Singh, will challenge the judgment of the High Court in the Supreme Court, but as the High Court said, “He does not deserve to be pardoned”.
